Goma Tei Opens at Kahala Mall

August 18, 2015 | Mall Updates

HONOLULU, HI, August 19, 2015 – Goma Tei Ramen, a one-stop shop for Hawaii’s favorite Japanese dishes, this week opened its newest restaurant at Kahala Mall. The eatery, named the best Japanese noodles restaurant from the 2014 Hale Aina Awards, is located across from Consolidated Theatres in the space previously held by Mark’s Hallmark.

“Opening in Kahala Mall is part of our expansion plan and we’re excited to bring our quality dishes and services to East Oahu,” said Kenneth Siu, co-owner of Goma Tei Ramen. “Kahala Mall is a perfect fit for us. We’re a family-oriented restaurant for families, friends and neighbors to come together and reconnect over flavorful food that not only feeds the belly but also the soul.”

Best known for its delicious home-made broths and Tan Tan Ramen (a Japanese-Chinese hybrid noodle soup with sesame and chili pepper flavoring), this is the fourth store for Goma Tei Ramen, which has been expanding since first opening in 2005. The restaurant also serves rice dishes, curries, gyoza, and offers an assortment of beers on tap. With the Kahala Mall opening, Goma Tei Ramen celebrates its 10th anniversary serving oodles of noodles to its dedicated local customer base.

For its grand opening celebration, from now until the end of September, diners can order draft beers (Kirin Ichiban, Kona Longboard and Budweiser) for 20 percent off regular price.

Other items on the menu include the chicken cold noodles (perfectly cooked udon noodles served with thinly sliced Japanese cucumber and a large serving of chicken), chicken tatsutaage (a side order of thick fried chicken packed with flavor and served with a spicy, tomato-based sauce), a variety of shoyu ramen served with char siu, wakame (seaweed), vegetables, chicken, seafood, or tonkatsu (pork tenderloin). All ramen come with generous portions of selected meat or vegetable.

"Making quality food for our loyal customer base is a priority for us," added Siu. "We cook our broths for 24 hours before serving to ensure consistency and flavor. In addition, this location will be no different from the others - we'll continue to offer delicious meals and drinks at reasonable prices with exceptional service that will keep Kahala Mall shoppers coming back for more."

Goma Tei broths are stewed using chicken bones, pork bones and an assortment of vegetables, added Siu. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is never used in any of the restaurant's homemade broth recipes.

The new location, the largest restaurant to date, is 3,300 square feet (including the kitchen and storage area) and will include ten tables and extensive counter space to serve approximately 80 guests at a time. Goma Tei Ramen has other locations in Pearlridge, Ala Moana and Ward Centre.

Goma Tei Ramen is co-owned by brothers Kenneth and Jerry Siu
